The Hackfalls Arbor Camp 2017 will be on the 11th and 12th November. Pro Climb and Arbor Care Gisborne having been running this event for 7 years now.
We aim to bring together Arborists to the arboretum to learn new techniques, pruning methods and explore new species the Hackfalls Arboretum has to offer.
At Hackfalls Arbor Camp 2017 learn about the trees collected by Bob Berry
Bob Berry is the founder of the Arboretum and has a solid collection of trees he has hand selected from around the globe. As a kind gesture we have organised yearly trips down to help retain the trees he has.
Many of the trees have not been maintained, and being from foreign origin, many have different growth patterns they have evolved to, and are exposed to foreign weather.
Last year we dealt with snow damage, which required pruning to the outer canopy of lots of trees, reducing weight and removing damaged limbs that had failed under the weight of the snow.
This comes as a great learning opportunity to many young Arborists, as pruning such exotic trees is rare and having to implement techniques that retain the trees will develop a different approach to tree care, and problem solving regarding what is best for the trees. The pruning we have done on site, is monitored each year when we revisit and we can show the effects directly to the teams. Creating open discussions and learning opportunities.
We encourage everyone to come and enjoy the weekend, so please do not hesitate to bring family and friends. We have a BBQ with home kill, fridge for beers and wood for fires.
